The Rural Schools Association of New York and the Rural Schools Program in the Department of Global Development at Cornell University is pleased to announce the 2022 RSA New York Youth Institute Scholarship Program! The New York Youth Institute is hosted by the World Food Prize Foundation and Cornell University.

This is an exciting opportunity for rural students to think globally and connect with peers across New York State. The New York Youth Institute (NYYI) is a life-changing experience where high school students engage with local leaders and experts on critical global challenges, participate in hands-on activities, and explore exciting ways to make a difference in New York and around the world. The 2022 NYYI will take place on March 25th on Cornell University’s campus. Registration and material submission for the New York Youth Institute is due February 21.

How do students get involved? Students research issues they care about, and propose their ideas to solve these grand challenges with a paper submission. Students who participate in the New York Youth Institute earn recognition as a Borlaug Scholar, and qualify for additional opportunities, including a chance to be invited to the World Food Prize annual event!

Grade eligibility: 9th through 12th grade.

The scholarship

The RSA is offering a $300 scholarship opportunity for rural students to participate in the New York Youth Institute. The scholarship will be awarded for logistical assistance and preparation for attending the in person event on March 25th.
